Just a Good Dog Program
Many trainers get wrapped up in the flashy things. The perfect heel, the long down stays….things that are great in obedience class. But what about the everyday things? Some people just want a good dog. What does that entail? A dog that knows how to properly greet people at home and out in public. A dog that can walk nicely on a leash without pulling or lunging at things. A dog that doesn’t bolt out of the front door, beg for food, has loving but clear personal space boundaries. Sure, the heel, sit, come, and stay are there; those are easy. With our “Just a Good Dog” program, we focus on your everyday lives. The scenarios that don’t happen when not at obedience class or a board and train. It gives you and every other family what you want. Just a good dog to love and live with.

FAQs
Why would a 6 or 12 month training program need to be so long?
Can the owner and dog be trained faster? Absolutely? We have found that these 2 programs help the owners maintain the training and habits better. Typically, once the initial buzz of the dog being trained, life happens, and things can fall by the wayside. Having the ability and knowing that Jessica will be coming to see the dogs’ training is maintained helps the owners truly make all that was taught a part of their lives. It also allows the owners to address any new behaviors that may arise shortly after training.
How does the 6-week programm differ from the others?
Jessica can have a fully trained drug detection dog in 6 weeks. Typically, it is the owners that do the most learning, with Jessica having the dog know the corcect behaviors before it is taught to the owner the training goes faster and is then quickly absorbed by the owner. This program requires commitment from both Jessica and owner. If the work is put in then the sky is the limits.
Does the longer training period mean that the dog will end up with more advanced training?
It all depends on the dog. Once Jessica has instilled the foundations in the owner and dog, the acquisition of new and additional behaviors can happen quickly and easily. Again, though, this depends on the dog and owner. Doing more advanced behaviors takes time and practice, and Jessica believes in the old adage “perfection before progression.”
What does “Just a Good Dog” truly mean?
Teaching heel, sit, come, and stay is something many owners can do on their own. The challenging things, everything in between, those are the true skills that the dog uses every day. The pretty heel etc, means nothing if the dog bolts out the door or won’t come when called. For many owners, these basic skills are more important than all the “fancy” stuff.
Do you guarantee that the dog will retain its training after the original period is over?
No. Why? Jessica will give the owner all the tools necessary to maintain the dogs training. However it is on the owner to remember what Jessica has taught them about training, their dogs and themselves and use that to keep the dogs new skills proficient. Additionally, students will have access to the student FB page which has videos and information taight during the training phase to help them remember what jussica said.
